Caparzo Sale! Italian delights! Sales ends Friday at noon!

We're lucky to see so much great wine every week and the last few weeks have been excellent! Team Cork just hosted Caparzo's export manager, Luca, as he guided us through all the bottles below. Every wine was varietally correct, balanced, and charmed the team with their very reasonable prices!

Caparzo History:

Founded in the late 1960s by a group of friends passionate about Tuscany and wine, Caparzo rapidly gained recognition. However, a transformative chapter began in 1998 when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased the estate. Alongside her son, Igino, and daughter, Alessandra, she set about blending tradition with innovation, aiming to capture the rich terroir of Montalcino in every bottle.

Caparzo's sprawling vineyards, covering 494 acres with 223 planted to vines, benefit from a variety of soil types and altitudes ranging from 720 to 985 feet. This diversity ensures consistent high-quality wine production, regardless of vintage fluctuations. In particular, Sangiovese Grosso thrives here, a testament to the vineyards' ideal conditions and meticulous care.

Field-selected grapes undergo stringent checks for optimal ripeness before harvesting. The state-of-the-art cellar facilities are designed to preserve the integrity of the fruit, from automatic de-stemming to an additional visual inspection for each berry. Fermentation takes place in custom-designed stainless steel vats, managed by a computerized system to support traditional techniques, such as temperature control and aeration.

We love getting to host principals from the amazing wineries we stock, and this visit highlighted the quality and passion that goes into every bottle Caparzo makes. Casual wines for reliable enjoyment or iconic bottles from the best vintages - Caparzo delivers a wonderful experience at all levels!

Caparzo Offer

The Wines:

Super Tuscans/Rosso/Chianti:

Caparzo Vermentino IGT Toscana 2022 - Retail: $24.99 - Your Price: $20.99 - in cases of 12, no minimums
Cork Notes:
What a refreshing treat! We'll be taking bottles of this home as spring arrives - a dry and mineral frame that shows white blossom and yellow peach on the nose, apple, grapefruit, more peach and honeycomb on a medium textured palate. Zippy acidity and electricity. The finish is mineral-driven, with a touch of bitter almond that lingers alongside the orchard fruit. Too easy to drink.

Caparzo Sangiovese IGT Toscana 2021 - Retail: $23.99 - Your Price: $19.99 - in cases of 12, no minimums
Blend:
85% Sangiovese 5% Merlot 5% Petit Verdot 5% Alicante
Cork Notes: This is a perfect casual bottle. Medium density, good drive/power, and a chewy tannic grip. Violets on the nose, with berry fruits, spice and brambly earth. The finish has a pleasantly lingering finish, and the spice balances the acidity just right. For $20, you won't think twice about popping a bottle for Tuesday night pizza!

Borgo Scopeto Chianti Classico 2020 - Retail: $31.99 - Your Price: $26.99 - in cases of 12, no minimums
91 Wine Spectator
"This red delivers purity, with raspberry, cherry, floral and wild herb flavors in sync with the elegant profile. Firm yet harmonious, this echoes the fruit, picking up earth and mineral elements on the finish. Sangiovese, Merlot and Colorino. Drink now through 2029." WS

Caparzo Rosso di Montalcino 2022 - Retail: $39.99 - Your Price: $33.99 - in cases of 6, no minimums
Cork Notes:
This has a wonderful rose petal and black tea nose, pleasing before it even hits your palate! A warm and inviting wine, with bright acidity, a delicious balance of cherry, spice, and mineral tension. A lovely, long finish completes this under-the-radar stunner. 100% Sangiovese, aged in used Slavonian oak.

Brunellos:

Caparzo Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG 2018 - Retail: $89.99 - Your Price: $74.99 - in cases of 6, no minimums
94 Wine Enthusiast, 94 Suckling

"The nose brings both fruit and warmth, as aromas of strawberries, cherries and hibiscus flirt with notes of dark chocolate, orange peel and stones basking in the sun. On the palate, a wave of cranberries brings astringency that freshens a persistent streak of stoniness, before the chocolate returns for the finish. The firm, imposing tannins creep up slowly, maintaining depth without weight." WE

Caparzo Brunello Riserva DOCG 2015 - Retail: $169.99 - Your Price: $139.99 - in cases of 6, no minimum - 5 cases available
96 Wine Enthusiast, 95 Suckling

"First produced in 1980, the Riserva is only produced in great vintages from fruit selected by winemaker Massimo Bracalente. The 2015 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva offers aromatics of sweet red cherry, violets, sage, and cedar. The palate is ripe and inviting, with pure red fruits, clove, and tomato leaf followed by an unfolding but fine tannic grip. The sunniness of the vintage is present, but there is clarity and purity of fruit which will make for a really pleasurable wine to drink with some time. Enjoy over the next 20 years." JD

Caparzo Brunello Riserva DOCG 2016 - Retail: $169.99 - Your Price: $139.99 - in cases of 6, no minimum - 3 cases available
95 Decanter, 95 Wine Advocate, 95 Wine Spectator

"Seamlessly constructed, Caparzo’s Riserva combines fruit from the estate’s original vineyard in the far north of Montalcino with La Casa on the Montosoli hill, as well as Il Cassero and La Caduta which are in the south to southwest of the denomination. Under a sheen of polished wood, red and black berries, forest undergrowth and mint emerge. Plump, crunchy currants pack the mid-palate while textured tannins fill out the perimeters and provide a satisfying chew on the finish. Pepper and clove linger. By no means unpleasant now, this will be even better after another year or two in the bottle." DC

Caparzo Brunello Di Montalcino 2008 - Retail: $179.99 - Your Price: $149.99 - in cases of 6, no minimum - 2 cases available
92 Suckling, 92 Wine Spectator, 91 Wine Enthusiast

"Caparzo delivers a consistent and clean expression of Brunello year after year. This shows a touch of bright acidity, formed thanks to a cooler than average growing season, and is backed by aromas of forest fruit and cola. Full flavors of tobacco and spice carry the wine smoothly over the palate." WE
