Based in Monforte d’Alba, the Fenocchio family has farmed a tiny 0.5 ha parcel in Cannubi Boschis for more than 50 years, bottling it on its own since 1980. The nose is gorgeous right out of the gate – rhubarb compote, cherry bark, toasted hazelnut and warm, dusty earth. On the palate it’s full, dense and a touch chewy, with generous fruit wrapped around fine, sandy tannins that slowly tighten into a firm, well defined frame. The citrusy acidity cuts straight through and drives a crisp, energetic finish. This is one to give a little time. Fenocchio’s wines age beautifully, so I’d leave it alone for at least a couple of years.
