The 5th Duc, Maurice de MacMahon, has taken over the winemaking from his mother at the family domaine, L’Abbaye de Morgeot, in Chassagne-Montrachet. The grapes from Les Houilleres mostly come from vines neighbouring or in Puligny-Montrachet, leading to a wine that is very similar in style and flavour without the hefty price tag. You can expect a rich expression of Chardonnay with notes of baked apple, lemon curd and white flowers. The finish is long with bright acidity to balance out the rich palate. A beautiful wine to pair with butter poached halibut and other white fish.
