Ribera is one of the best kept secrets in Spain, a region that produces big powerful Reds that rival the best from Rioja - at very palatable prices! These wines are darker-fruited than the cherry-driven Reservas of Rioja and show an earthy, rich body and tensioned minerality. One of my all-time favourite styles with BBQ steak, this with a medium-grilled ribeye and peppercorn sauce is a recipe for true love! A mix of (mainly) French and (some) American oak, this could use 2-3 years of cellaring to fully integrate, and will age easily for 10+ years.
